Acknowledging Comments vs. Responding to Comments
Slowly, more bloggers are starting to respond to comments. While comment responses are good for bloggers, comment responses are different than comment acknowledgments. You should figure out if you are acknowledging comments or responding to them. That way, you can set a style on your blog so that people do not think that you are responding to comments by only acknowledging them, in order to fulfil the “duty” of replying to all comments.
What are comment acknowledgments?
Acknowledgments can consist of, among other things, one-liners like “Thank you” or even “Comment345, you are right. Fast wind moves leaves.” This is the same as saying “oh ok” or “I hear you, interesting.”
What are comment responses?
Responding to comments can mean both acknowledging and responding with some information not contained in the comment you are responding to. This is done to interact with a person and to carry on a conversation.
Are comment acknowledgments bad?
Comment acknowledgments are good if they are done sincerely and if they are not presented as comment responses. So the next time you want to reply to a comment, try to figure out if you want to acknowledge comments or respond to them. I try to combine the two if I cannot respond to a comment with some information about my opinion. I am happy with such an approach so far, since it allows me to respond in any way I wish while also clearly showing others why and how I am responding.
You should try to avoid acknowledging comments simply to fulfil the duty of replying to all comments. That will only create an illusion that you respond to all comments; such an illusion can be shattered if anyone figures out your acknowledgment trends through your comments. Respond to comments when you can, and acknowledge comments when you can, and do not portray each one as being the other. ![]()

I think when you’re starting out a blog site initially you may want to repond to comment, but as more and more readers leaves comment it may be difficul to respond to all comments. I guess it depends on how much time you want to devote to it…

Thanks for the comment Cindy, and a very good point you have there. As a blog gets more readers, it becomes harder and harder to respond to all comments.
I was thinking, however, that a blogger should focus on ways to respond to all comments, in order to focus on the commentors who are already commenting instead of getting more and more commentors. If a blogger cannot communicate with all commentors, then does that not mean the blogger is simply focusing on the number of commentors and not on interacting with the commentors? I have recently noticed some bloggers, who are gaining traffic, ignore many commentors when the commentors are asking for some help or have some question about something. These bloggers simply keep on blogging, ignoring their commentors. That is not cool, right?
However, like you hinted, sometimes at least acknowledging comments can be a good way to address commentors too, compared to completely ignoring comments. Thanks again Cindy.
I hope to see more input from you on other articles too.
