Would You Give Up All of Your Blog Income for Your Readers?
Today I would like to ask a basic question that may send chills across many bloggers who actually think about it. If you had a choice, would you give up all of your online sponsors, advertisements and any money making techniques, whether direct or indirect, for the readers?
To help you understand this question more, I will talk a bit more about blogs that focus on money by manipulating appreciation, and blogs that focus on both money and appreciation, below. In this article I will not talk about blogs that focus solely on appreciation and not money, since you are already reading such a blog now [hint hint], and you can see dozens of personal blogs out there that focus on different topics and their emotions instead of money.
Some blogs focus on money through appreciation
It is slowly becoming boring for more and more people to talk about appreciating sponsors and on how different techniques around blogs can result in more user interaction. It is also funny how many bloggers simply do different reader appreciation techniques in order to gain more readers, and not to the readers. You can see such techniques being given more preference as time passes, and as more and more monetary opportunities come in the directions of those bloggers who can make such choices.
Also, some blogs focus on money by providing actual content value to readers, and by acknowledging the presence of money and its influence on the blog. Such blogs are rare though, since the more famous a blog becomes, the more focus it can put on providing out content that pleases the search engines and the sponsors. Such blogs do exist, and they are not that hard to find. However, when you consider the importance of money over readers, you may be surprised to find out how many blogs may actually prefer money over readers, even if the reader has not done anything. This includes blogs that focus on reader appreciation with the objective of earning money since the beginning. The reason why something is started is very important in my view, and thus if a blog was not started with something other than money of any kind as its focus, chances are such a blog is doing different things to achieve more money. All you have to do is to analyze to find out whether or not the blog being analyzed falls under such a category.
Some blogs focus on both money and appreciation
Also, as more and more time passes, the very few blogs that actually focus on both money and reader appreciation are getting less reviews, simply because they do not focus completely on money. Such blogs have a few unique things. First, they probably started helping readers in some manner before they thought of making money. Second, such blogs revolve their content around readers, and not around sponsors. Personal blog niches are a great example of this. Thus, if a reader comes along and wants something random, the blogger in question will not stick to the niche but may try to communicate or reach out to the reader by changing the direction of the blog. Such a change is not allowed on 99% of all the niche blogs out there. Thus, the more specific niche you have, the less likely are you able to accommodate readers over your niche or sponsors.
Would you give up all online blog money of any kind for your readers? Why or why not?
In your view, on whatever blog you have right now, can you give up today all the sponsors, and all advertisements, and all links that point in any form or shape to any money making products or services that help you make money directly or indirectly? Why or why not?

it’s easy for me to answer now, since I don’t make any money with my blog (at least, not yet), so of course I give away everything I make, which is $0,000,000
However if/when I do start making money with my blog, I plan on hosting more contests with monetary prizes for my readers to win.

Well Bes,
I do hope there is some middle ground.
I’m confused by one of your paragraphs where it talks about using reader appreciation techniques to gain readers, but not to readers. Did you mean that the reader appreciation techniques don’t apply to current readers?
If that’s the case, it seems like a leasing office. The salespeople will do anything to make you one of their clients, but once you are a client, the salespeople could care less. All they care about is getting more clients and not keeping existing ones (contracts don’t help).
If I were making money on a blog, I don’t think I would give up all blog income as I think that is rather extreme, but I’d definitely try to give back in the form of contests as Vivien pointed out.

Inspirationbit, thanks for the comment.
Those are a lot of zeros, heh.
Thanks for sharing what you intend to do with the money.
Ronald, thanks for the comment too.
By “It is also funny how many bloggers simply do different reader appreciation techniques in order to gain more readers, and not to the readers.” I meant to say that it is funny how many bloggers simply show appreciation to gain more readers, instead of actually appreciating readers regardless of those bloggers getting more readers or not. The sole reason they show appreciation is to draw more readers. Does that make more sense? I should modify my original article to make it a bit more clearer.
Your leasing office example is interesting. It is also like banks that I talk about a lot on my site. New banking customers sit on nice seats to open accounts, but once you become a customer, you have to stand in the line and treated very, very differently and not as nice as when you were a prospect customer.
Thanks for sharing what you may do with the money. It can be and is completely normal in many situations to keep some money and give some away.
