Group Project: It’s Peeve Week 3 Time!

Peeve Week 3 Has Been Canceled

The time is near for RAProject’s first group project. With the success of the first two Peeve Weeks, Simonne and I have agreed to host the third Peeve Week here. Part group project, part contest, part blog carnival, Peeve Week 3 will have just about everything for everyone. The dates for Peeve Week 3 are April 7-11.

What is Peeve Week?

A “peeve” is a cause to be annoyed, irritated, or resentful. And Peeve Week allows readers such as yourself to contribute in order to get your favorite (or least favorite) peeve off your chest.

How Does Peeve Week Work?

I’ll get into more of the rules and incentives further on in this post, but Peeve Week is more-or-less twenty five people weighing in on a series of topics over a week. All posts are published on one blog, with one contributor a day being selected for a prize.

What Are the Peeve Week 3 Topics?

• Monday April 7th – WordPress (or other blogging platforms).

  Do you have a beef with WordPress? What about Movable Type? Theme or plugin issues? Here is your outlet.

• Tuesday April 8th – SEO/Make Money Online.

  You gotta love the people that talk about SEO and Make Money Online all the time. Or, perhaps not.

• Wednesday April 9th – Web Design/Development.

  Are you sad that IE8 is forcing developers to opt-in? Peeved because all your co-workers still design for IE6? Bad programming practices? Break free, my friend.

• Thursday April 10th – Social Networking.

  Are you sick of Facebook application requests? Or annoyed at those people begging you to stumble or digg posts? Let it out!

• Friday April 11th – Blogging.

  Feeling disrespected as a blogger? Did someone rip you off in a contest? Feeling unappreciated? Then this category is for you.

Want to Contribute? (Pretty please, with sugar on top?)

The first two Peeve Weeks were a tremendous success because readers like you chose to contribute and wrote in your own peeves.

The goal here is to have five posts a day for five days. That equals out to twenty-five posts total. In other words, twenty-five reader-contributed articles. It is an ambitious goal, but with your help we can make it.
And there are incentives for pitching in. If you are interested, please continue reading.

How to Contribute

Pick a day and a time (see posting schedule below) and give me an e-mail (or leave a comment or e-mail me directly at ron@ronalfy.com) of your intention to contribute. I will update the posting schedule (see below) with your pledge (and a groovy link to your site) and anxiously await your contribution. You can also contribute multiple times, but I do limit you to one contribution per day. If all slots are filled (sound of Ron begging again), you are still welcome to write your post on your own blog and I’ll link to it at the conclusion of Peeve Week.

Here are three ways to contribute after you have claimed a day and a time slot:

1. You may write the post on your own site before Peeve Week, but I ask that you don’t mention Peeve Week in your contribution. After you let me know about the published post, I’ll convert it over for publishing for Peeve Week and in the e-book. If you have any imagery that goes along with your post, please ensure that these are released under Creative Commons (otherwise we’ll have to pick out our own imagery for the post).
2. You may write your post and e-mail it (ron@ronalfy.com) to me. Doing so gives me permission to use your post.
3. You may register as a guest contributor (please apply) and use our WordPress dashboard to write your post. I will publish the post for you after ensuring the formatting and imagery.

The deadline for all contributions is April 4th, 2008 at 11:59pm (EST).

Incentives for Participating

• Chance to win a reader prize. Odds are 20% (see Rules below).
• A new audience reading your stuff.
• Dedicated author page on this site (with room for images and links).
• Dedicated by-line at the end of your post and on the sidebar.
• Your post is published as part of an e-book at the conclusion of Peeve Week, which you can distribute to your own readers.
• Being able to read what everyone else wrote (this is what makes Peeve Week fun).

Oh, and did I mention the e-book and a prize given out to a contributor each day?

Incentives for Being a Sponsor

To help cover the prizes for the contributors, we are asking for sponsors for each post. Here are some incentives for being a sponsor.

• Dedicated spot at the top of the post with a blurb such as: “Sponsored by…” If you wish to have a graphic, graphics must be no larger than 200px (width) and 125px (height).
• You will be featured on a “Sponsors” page in the e-book.
• Potential for a large amount of visibility in the long run. There are several original Peeve Week posts that have over 20,000 unique views.
• A post will be written before Peeve Week highlighting the sponsors and their planned contributions. This will be an informative post that will benefit the Peeve Week contributors and readers.

Here is the planned posting schedule. You may choose a day and a slot. Sponsor slots have been filled for all posts. Posts will be published at Central Standard Time.

Rules

Contributed posts are published under Creative Commons

In order to compile and distribute the e-book at the conclusion of Peeve Week 3, it will be necessary for each author to release their work under the Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States license.

Post Content

The post should be at a minimum 350 words with care taken to ensure proper grammar and spelling. You may link to relevant sites that have to deal with the post topic.

It shouldn’t have to be said, but spammers will not be tolerated.

Sponsors of Posts

In order to make the reader prizes possible, we are asking for sponsors of each post. Each sponsor is asked to set aside at least $10 for each post. Sponsors will be given a “sponsored by:” notice at the top of the post and a dedicated “sponsors” page in the e-book. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please e-mail me or Simonne with your proposal. We request that sponsors are family-friendly and work-safe products or sites.

You may sponsor an entire day’s posts, but your prize should be equivalent to about $50 dollars (can be tangible or intangible).

In the event that all sponsor slots are taken and you still wish to be a sponsor, we can work something out so we can give prizes to the readers of Peeve Week as well. Again, please e-mail me or Simonne with your proposal.

Picking the Prize Winners for Contributors

A poll will be posted at the conclusion of each day of Peeve Week. The poll will be opened for one week and we will ask the readers to chose their favorite post. The winner will receive the prize contributed by the sponsors for that day.
