Reader Appreciation Initiatives 12-20-2007

  • How Do You De-Stress

An interesting post on LifeHacker about stress. It is also a good example of involving the readers through a simple question.

  • Home Town Scout (Not Work or Child Friendly) Reader Appreciation Month
January is reader appreciation month. I will be giving away my entire collection of seduction Dvds, CDs, and ebooks. I will be holding various contests throughout the month to give them away. More announcements will come first week of January.

  • Editor’s responsibilities to writers and readers

Rachel posts a consolidation of various editors who weigh in on what it means to serve the writers and the readers. One insightful quote from Ben Thomas (Lead Editor at The Willows) is as follows:

To me, the editor’s responsibility is foremost to the reader. I do my best to take care of our authors and treat them and their work with the respect they deserve, but my ears are always tuned to the readership, listening for their complaints and suggestions. Readers cannot–and wouldn’t want to–wade through every story in my slushpile, so I see myself as an aggregator, discovering the tales of most interest to my magazine’s demographic, and presenting those in a pleasing format.

  • Reader Question: To Roth 401(k) It or Not?

JLP answers a reader’s question in-depth. Responding and interacting with readers is always a good way to show reader appreciation.

As you can see from one of the above ‘Initiatives’, you need not have a work-safe blog to show reader appreciation, and we will link to you here. This is evidenced by our first interview here on the Project. Reader appreciation extends to all blogs and websites, not just the ones we morally agree with.

If you happen to know of reader appreciation initiatives in another language, please use our contact form and let me know about it. Thank you for reading.
